The History of Aprons
at the Windsor House of Tea

September 16,  2006

Once again the Crimson Crones enjoyed a wonderful day in Astoria at the new location of the Windsor Tea House.  We enjoyed a variety of finger sandwiches, scones, desserts, and our very own pot of tea.

Bobbe Schafer, from Powell Butte in central Oregon, gave us a look at the history of aprons from the 1940’s to the 1970’s.  Bobbe brought her collection of vintage aprons and shared with us the stories that aprons tell.  We heard about women’s historical roles, fashion trends and more!  She brought back memories of our childhood as we watched slides of aprons of the past, from granny aprons to beautiful tea aprons.

For those who experienced this delightful tea room with us last summer, the place has moved upstairs and expanded.  They now have a new “Garden Room” to better accommodate groups, and their new Tea Bar features a variety of  drinks and scones to go too.

Thank you, Linda Brown, for offering this wonderful event for all to enjoy.
